The Doha Film Institute announced the 44 films that will participate in the Qumra Film Forum 2023, including feature films and documentaries, in addition to short films and series. It was chosen from 23 countries to receive support for the success of filmmakers from the region and the world, and to prepare them to complete their projects and present them globally.
According to a statement, which Al-Diyawar received a copy of, the selected emerging talents will participate in Qumra, within an innovative hybrid system, where they will engage in real-world activities, training and communication sessions, from March 10 to 15, in addition to online activities, from March 19 to 21, 2023.
Of the 44 projects in this year’s edition, 29 projects that receive support from the Doha Film Institute’s grant program will participate, in addition to five projects that received the support of the Qatar Film Fund.
Qumra 2023 projects include a list of 13 projects for cinematic talents from Qatar, including 7 projects for Qataris, and 7 series for promising talents.
In this regard, Fatima Hassan Alremaihi, CEO of the Doha Film Institute, said: “Qumra Film Forum provides a new space for independent and new voices in the world of cinema, and we are delighted with the diversity and depth of original ideas that promising filmmakers are exploring. Our goal is to support independent cinematic voices throughout their work, from writing the script to showing the film on screen. We are honored to have the support of experts and luminaries of cinema who will provide oversight and direction for the selected projects. The skills that filmmakers acquire at Qumra are invaluable and beneficial to their careers, whether by connecting their projects to a global audience or gaining exceptional insights into the filmmaking profession.”
