The President and General Manager of the Sonatrach complex, Toufik Hakkar, paid a working visit and inspected the industrial zone of Skikda, accompanied by a delegation of marching tires, in order to monitor the functioning of the production units in the industrial zone and to examine the progress of the works of the expansion project of the new petroleum port.
The program of the visit was initiated by the President, the Director General, by listening to a technical presentation at the site of the new petroleum port expansion project, with a completion rate of 90%, and it is one of the strategic projects that Sonatrach relies on in order to raise its hydrocarbon exports abroad.
The project has important economic dimensions for Algeria, as it will allow to increase the loading and unloading capacities of hydrocarbons, as well as strengthening the capabilities of marketing liquefied natural gas abroad.
The movement of large-sized ships destined for export, in turn, will witness a great boom, given the shipping capabilities that the new port will provide for gas transport ships with a capacity of 220,000 cubic meters and oil tankers whose capacity ranges from 50,000 to 250,000 tons.
During this visit, the CEO and his accompanying delegation went to the oil refinery complex of Skikda “RA1K”, where they inspected the oil waste treatment area and listened to explanations about the applied methods for treating this waste.
The opportunity also led him to inspect the fuel tanks in the Skikda oil refining complex “RA1K”, which were subjected to reformatting operations in order to conform them to the requirements of safety rules.
The visit was an opportunity for the President, the General Manager, to see the Linear Alkyl Benzene “LAB” project, where the team in charge of the completion of this project gave explanations about the progress rate of the project in its stage related to the selection of the completion company, where the President and General Manager noted the importance of this project, which comes within the plan to develop petrochemical activity Sonatrach, and in this regard, Mr. Taoufik Hakkar gave directives to respect the deadlines set for the completion of this project in accordance with recognized international standards and specifications.
The new oil port expansion project is considered one of the pivotal projects that will play a positive role in developing the economic features of Sonatrach at the international level, as the port of Skikda is the eastern gateway for the export of hydrocarbons.
