The Ministry of Health organized today, Tuesday in Algiers, a study day on family planning, under the slogan “Family Planning in Algeria..Towards a Unified Vision”, during which the participants stressed the need to educate women of childbearing age on the importance of spacing between births and prior planning for them.
In this regard, the Director of Population at the Ministry, Wali Omar, confirmed that the aim of organizing this event is to reach “a unified vision on family planning, in a way that educates women of childbearing age on the benefits of using contraceptives, while monitoring the shortcomings recorded in this field of where those means are available.
He added, “Access to real family planning will inevitably make it possible to improve care for the health of the mother and her children, not to mention the improvement of educational care and the level of well-being of families in general, which represents the basic indicators of the development of society.”
And Mr. Wali stressed, in the same context, the importance of educating women in order to increase their knowledge and information regarding the advantages of spacing births and prior planning for them, and its implications for the health of the mother and child.
For her part, the official in charge of the United Nations Population Fund Program in Algeria, Ms. Hamidouche Badia, confirmed that “reaching the stage of generalizing the idea of family planning will not take place without strengthening the knowledge of couples of childbearing age on the subject,” stressing in the same context that “Algeria has experience Great in the field of family planning, in terms of the programs that have been developed to achieve this goal.
She added that the organization of such study days will enable the revitalization and follow-up of the national strategy for family planning that was drawn up by the Ministry of Health for the years 2017/2020, with the aim of reviving the same strategy to the horizons of the year 2030.
By the way, she called for the involvement of civil society and the media to participate in raising awareness of the importance of family organization and planning, referring to a training program drawn up by the Ministry of Health for the benefit of religious guides in coordination with the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments in this field.
It should be noted that this meeting, which witnessed the participation of doctors specialized in the field, midwives, university professors, and members of the National Population Committee and the National Committee for Reproductive Health, will continue tomorrow, Wednesday, during which several axes for discussion will be opened to reach proposals and recommendations that will be used in updating the national planning strategy. family.
