Seven people were placed in temporary detention after being heard by the investigating judge in the case of the murder of lawyer Jamal Eddin Shawi, according to a statement issued today, Thursday, by the Public Prosecutor of the Skikda Judicial Council, who explained that the preliminary data of the investigation indicated that the motive for the crime was theft and had nothing to do with the victim’s profession. According to the statement, the preliminary investigation carried out in the case led to the arrest of eight persons related to the case. (B.R.), (B.A.) and (D.F) were followed up with the felony of forming an association of evil people for the purpose of preparing to commit felonies, and so on. A felony of kidnapping a person by luring and detaining him without an order from the competent authorities.
These three defendants were followed up with the felony of premeditated murder, in addition to the felony of theft associated with the circumstances of plurality, the night, the use of violence, the conjuring of a vehicle to facilitate the act and the facilitation of escape, the felony of intentionally setting fire to a vehicle owned by others without persons, and a misdemeanor of possession of weapons and ammunition of the same type. The fourth without a license, according to the same statement.
The source added that these acts are punishable by the provisions of the Penal Code, Law 15/20 related to the prevention of kidnapping crimes, and Order 06/97 related to military equipment, weapons and ammunition.
Each of “S.M.,” “S.S.,” and (G.B.) were followed up with the felony of forming a bad association to prepare to commit felonies, the felony of participating in theft associated with circumstances of plurality, night, and violence, and conjuring a vehicle to facilitate escape, and the misdemeanor of failure to report. A felony is the aforementioned acts punishable by Articles 176, 177, P01, 181, 350, 353 and 42 of the Penal Code.
Both (B.M.) and (K.A) were also prosecuted for the crime of not reporting a felony, which is punishable by the provisions of Article 181 of the Penal Code.
And the same statement added that the investigating judge, after hearing the accused at the first appearance, issued deposit orders against each of (B.R.), (B.A.), (Daf), (S.M.) (S.P.), and (G. B) and (B.M.) temporary detention and an order to place the accused (K.A) under the judicial control system.
And the same source explained that the preliminary data of the completed investigation concluded that the motive for the crime committed was theft and had nothing to do with the victim’s profession as a lawyer, nor with his capacity as the head of the Municipal People’s Assembly for the Sabbath.
As a reminder, according to the first statement issued by the Public Prosecutor at the Skikda Court, on January 22, the National Gendarmerie in the municipality of Al-Sabt (Sharaf Skikda) received a notification stating that the so-called Shawi Jamal Al-Din, the lawyer and mayor of Al-Sabt, had disappeared.
