Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad Ahmed Ataf held talks with British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Lord Tariq Ahmed from Wimbledon, as part of his official visit to London to represent the President of the Republic at the coronation ceremony of His Majesty King Charles III.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the British minister praised Algeria’s participation in the ceremony of assuming the new British monarch to the throne.
On this occasion, the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and prospects for enhancing them in the fields of energy, trade, security and culture, as they expressed their satisfaction with the promising development witnessed by these relations.
They also agreed to re-launch the joint working group to enhance the general framework of economic cooperation with the aim of building a solid partnership that responds to the aspirations of the two countries and their economic and human capabilities.
On the other hand, and in anticipation of the next session of the Algerian-British strategic dialogue, the two ministers exchanged views on many issues of common concern, including the situation in Mali, Libya, the Sahel and Sahara region, as well as developments in the Western Sahara issue.
They also discussed the deterioration of the security and humanitarian situation in Sudan in light of efforts to stop the fighting and launch a political process with a view to reaching a peaceful and lasting solution to the crisis in this country.
