The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ammar Balani, received today, Tuesday, at the Ministry’s headquarters, British Minister in Charge of Immigration Robert Jenry who is on an official visit to Algeria.
The two sides welcomed the positive and continuous dynamic that characterizes the relations between Algeria and the United Kingdom, which were marked in particular by the exchange of high-level visits that reflect the common political will to build a solid and multidimensional partnership.
The two parties also welcomed the fruitful discussions held by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Ataf, with the Minister of State, Lord Ahmed, during the coronation ceremony of King Charles III, during which the two parties were renewed to raise their relationship to a more strategic level.
The talks also focused on cooperation between the two countries in the field of immigration and consulate, where the main focus was on the need for joint action to further facilitate exchanges, by strengthening economic, scientific and cultural relations that bind the two countries.
This meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on the challenges of migration and to stress in particular the need for a comprehensive and long-term approach to address the root causes of irregular migration. The two sides also reviewed several regional issues of common concern, including the latest developments in the security situation in the region.
With regard to the issue of Western Sahara, emphasis was placed on supporting the efforts of the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, with the aim of relaunching the process of self-determination negotiations without preconditions and in good faith, with the aim of reaching a political solution that guarantees the right to self-determination for the people of Western Sahara.
