Many representatives of international bodies in Algeria praised Algeria’s efforts in the field of promoting blood donation, noting the commitment of civil society to ensuring that patients have access to blood.
And the representative of the World Health Organization in Algeria, Nouhou Amadou, explained during the commemoration of the World Blood Donor Day (June 14) organized by the Ministry of Health at the level of the lecture hall in the wilaya of Algiers, “We thank Algeria and its government for the efforts made in the field of obtaining medical treatment, as Obtaining blood in sufficient quantity and quality has become a reality.”
The intervention also praised “the efforts of the Algerian associations of blood donors, especially those that combat rare diseases, hemophilia and cancer”, and made a “special mention” to the Algerian Federation of Blood Donors with which the World Health Organization has been cooperating for more than 20 years.
In the same context, he also referred to the “solidarity” that characterizes the Algerian population with regard to blood donation, before mentioning “the readiness of the World Health Organization to accompany and consolidate Algeria’s gains, especially with regard to the implementation of the national strategy for blood donation, as well as the communication strategy to promote blood donation.”
As for the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, he presented, in an intervention via remote visual analogy technology, his “thanks” to Algeria for hosting the occasion of the commemoration of the International Day dedicated to blood donation during this year.
He also stressed that blood donation “can serve not only patients, but also their families and communities,” calling in this regard to “work together to allow everyone to have access to blood.”
As for the Director General of the International Federation of Blood Donor Organizations, Gian Franco Massaro, he stressed, “We all know that Algeria is one of the best African countries in the field of blood donation, and for this reason, it was awarded a medal of merit through the Ministry of Health.”
He also saluted the officials of the National Blood Agency and the Algerian Federation of Blood Donors, adding that the mission of the International Federation of Blood Donor Organizations is to “promote the culture of blood donation at the international level.”
Commenting on the World Health Organization’s choice of Algeria to host the World Blood Donation Day, the Minister of Health, Abdelhak Saihi, confirmed, on the sidelines of this meeting, that this “is a tribute in itself, and that this indicates once again that our country is on the The way to take an international position in the field of health development.
