A close return of Syria to the Arab League – the Algerian dialogue

It begins with a meeting and discussion, then agreement, after which an invitation is presented to Syria.” He continued by saying that “after these stages, Syria will participate in any other ministerial meeting, and will return to all the activities of the Arab League.”

In the context, the French news agency quoted an unnamed diplomatic source as saying that the League of Arab States will hold two extraordinary meetings on Sunday at the level of foreign ministers to discuss the conflict in Sudan and the issue of Syria’s return to the League.

The GCC countries met last month in Jeddah, with the participation of Egypt, Iraq and Jordan, to discuss the issue of Syria’s return to the Arab League, about a month before the Arab summit was held in Saudi Arabia, and it was agreed to play an Arab leadership role in efforts to end the crisis in Syria. An event that was followed by a visit, the first of its kind in 12 years, by the Saudi foreign minister to Damascus.

It is noted recently the activity of Syrian diplomacy at the Arab level and rapprochement with the Arab capitals after years of suspension of Syria’s membership in the Arab League. And Algeria had pleaded, before hosting the November 2022 summit, for Syria’s return to the League of Arab States before the summit, based on its eligibility as a founding member of this body, according to previous statements by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, before Damascus announced the postponement of the proposal for its return and the resumption of occupying its seat in the League of Arab States. During the November summit, keen to contribute to unifying the Arab word and ranks in facing the challenges posed by the current situation at the regional and international levels.
