A devastating earthquake hits Turkey, Syria, and Algeria confirms its solidarity – Al-Hiwar Al-Jazaeryya

At dawn today, Monday, Syria and Turkey were shaken by a devastating earthquake of 7.8 degrees on the Richter scale, after which Algeria expressed its condolences and full solidarity with the two countries and the Syrian and Turkish peoples.

In the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “In the wake of the devastating earthquake that struck areas this morning in the south of the Turkish Republic and the north of the Syrian Arab Republic, leaving heavy losses in lives, property and infrastructure, Algeria extends its sincere condolences to the families of the victims and the governments and peoples of these two brotherly countries.”

The statement added, “Algeria, which shares the pain of this painful tragedy with its brothers in the Turkish Republic and the Syrian Arab Republic, affirms its full solidarity with these two brotherly countries and expresses its aspiration for them to overcome this ordeal with much patience, determination and steadfastness.”

The preliminary toll in Turkey and Syria indicates the death of more than 500 dead and thousands of wounded in the two countries and huge material losses in buildings and infrastructure. According to the preliminary toll, Turkey counted 284 dead and 2,320 wounded, while Syria recorded 237 dead and 639 wounded, as a result of the earthquake that struck the Pazardik region in Kahramanmaras province (south-east), 60 km from the Syrian border, and according to the American Institute of Seismology, the earthquake occurred at 04:00. :17 local time, at a depth of about 17.9 km.
