A memorandum of understanding between Sonatrach and a Brazilian group – Al-Hiwar Al-Jazairia

Sonatrach and the Brazilian company “WEG SA” signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two companies, as the Brazilian group is one of the most important suppliers of electric motors in the world.

This memorandum was signed, yesterday evening, Wednesday, at Sonatrach’s headquarters, by Mohamed Soleimani, Vice President in charge of Exploration and Production activity at Sonatrach, and Harry Schmelzer Jr., President and General Manager of the WEG SA complex, in the presence of Mohamed Arkab, Minister of Energy and Mines, and Toufik Hakkar, President and General Manager. To Sonatrach and the Brazilian Ambassador to Algeria, Flavio Mariga.

According to a statement by the “Sonatrach” group, this cooperation will enhance prospects for exchanging expertise and experiences in the field of improving performance and technological control of Sonatrach facilities, through a vision of a win-win partnership for both parties. By identifying the best technologies that allow improving the energy efficiency of Sonatrach facilities and digitizing and maintaining electrical equipment.

Through this cooperation, Sonatrach aims to implement one of its commitments related to the policy of promoting local content and national integration, represented in “contributing to the development of national capabilities in the field of technological control of Sonatrach’s professions, through cooperation with foreign partners.”

In this context, Sonatrach and WEG SA will carry out the economic evaluation of the completion of the WEG SA manufacturing and maintenance facility in Algeria, and study the possibility of establishing a partnership with the Training Institute of Sonatrach, with the aim of raising the level of training, accreditation and certification, as well as organizing workshops and meetings for specialists in order to exchange effective working methods. This is in accordance with the knowledge management and valuation program, especially with regard to monitoring technological development and updating standards related to electrical equipment.
