Actual exploitation of the zinc and lead mine in Amizour Valley next July and employment for the people of the region – Al-Hiwar Algeria

The Ministry of Energy and Mines announced the selection of all administrative procedures related to the project to exploit the zinc and lead mine in Talat Hamza – Oued Amizour, and that work is currently underway to complete the rest of the requirements of this project related to transportation, water provision, and the preparation of the berth in the port of Bejaia in order to actually start the completion of the project from Exploitation of the mine and construction of the factory next July.

According to the statement of the Ministry of Energy, the pace of work is proceeding quickly, pursuant to the outputs of the cabinet meeting held recently in its apartment related to the project to exploit the zinc and lead mine in Talat Hamza – Oued Amizur (Bejaia Province), which stipulates reducing all deadlines related to sub-technical workshops and accelerating the entry of the project into exploitation. The statement adds that the energy and mining sector, by completing the administrative procedures, will have provided all the necessary conditions, to start actual production during the month of December 2025.

As a reminder, this project is located on an area estimated at 234 hectares, with exploitable reserves estimated at 34 million tons. The Ministry of Energy and Mines confirms, once again, that the initiation of mining exploitation will take place according to the feasibility study for the project, which is approved in accordance with the rules stipulated in the requirements related to environmental protection. , which are compatible with the environmental requirements and the specificity of the nature of the mine, without neglecting the positive impact on the exploitation of this structured and strategic project for the country and on the economic development of the region in particular, in addition to opening many job opportunities for holders of university degrees and graduates from vocational training centers and youth of the region by creating about 780 direct job opportunities and 4,000 indirect job positions, benefiting from training in this field and integrating them into the project later, with priority given to the youth of the region.

The source stated that meetings and preparations for seminars will be held by the executives of the mining sector and by the Algerian-Australian mixed company (Western Mediterranean Zinc WMZ) in charge of the implementation and exploitation of the project, with all interested parties, especially representatives of civil society, university professors, researchers and economists.
