After 12 years of isolation, Syria returns today to its Arab embrace

Today, Friday, the Gulf Cooperation Council will hold a meeting in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in which Egypt, Iraq and Jordan will also participate, in the context of a diplomatic movement that reflects the efforts of some Arab countries to restore relations with Syria after a rupture that lasted for years.

This comes after the arrival of Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad to Jeddah, on a visit that is the first since the outbreak of the conflict in Syria in 2011.

And President Abdelmadjid Tebboune had stated that Algeria is seriously seeking Syria’s participation in the Arab summit, which is the matter that Saudi Arabia is trying to present at today’s meeting.

According to the British newspaper “The Telegraph”, the return of President Assad to the Arab bloc will represent the culmination of the West’s failed policy towards Syria and a diplomatic victory, not only for him, but also for his supporters, who have supported Damascus for more than a decade.
