Algeria: The number of fixed Internet subscribers exceeds the threshold of 5 million – Al-Hiwar Al-Jazaeryia

The number of fixed internet subscribers in Algeria exceeded 5 million subscribers, after it was estimated at 3.5 million subscribers at the beginning of 2020.

A statement by the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications stated that “the number of fixed internet subscribers in Algeria has exceeded the threshold of 5 million subscribers, after it was estimated at 3.5 million subscribers at the beginning of the year 2020, which translates to achieving the interim goals of the sector’s action plan, which is included in the government’s action plan that aims To connect two-thirds of households (about 6 million families) to fixed internet by the end of 2024.

The ministry indicated that “connecting new subscribers is a priority via fiber optic technology, in parallel with the gradual conversion of subscribers in the copper network to fiber optic technology, which significantly contributes to improving the quality of service provided and providing higher flow speeds for subscribers.”
