Today, Thursday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Ataf, arrived in Berlin on a working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany, at the end of his European tour commissioned by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, according to a ministry statement.
At the beginning of this visit, Atef, accompanied by his German counterpart, Annalina Baerbock, presided over a working session dedicated to reviewing the reality and prospects of the Algerian-German partnership, as well as developments in regional and international files of common interest.
In this context, the two sides appreciated “the momentum witnessed by the bilateral relations in various sectors, especially the major joint projects that they aspire to embody in the field of renewable energies and green hydrogen.”
They also renewed – adds the same statement – their commitment to strengthening consultation and coordination on the situation in the Sahel and Sahara region, especially the path of peace and reconciliation in Mali, as well as on the crisis in Ukraine in the light of the Algerian mediation initiative “in order to contribute to international efforts aimed at crystallizing a peaceful and sustainable solution that puts an end to the existing conflict.” It allows dealing with its effects and residuals at various levels.”
In this context, Mrs. Berbock praised “the important role played by Algeria in order to achieve energy security in the world and the efforts it is making in its regional space to spread security and stability in Mali, Libya and the Sahel region in general.”
She also renewed her congratulations to Algeria on its election as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, expressing Germany’s readiness to share its experience drawn from its last membership in the Security Council during the period 2019-2020.
For his part, Mr. Ataf mentioned “the depth of the historical relations between the two countries, which are rooted in the peace treaty signed between Algeria and Hamburg in 1751, praising its promising prospects, especially in the technical and energy fields.”
He also expressed his thanks for the support provided by Germany for Algeria’s candidacy for membership in the Security Council, welcoming its offer to share its experience on the work of the Council, provided that the formula and method of this cooperation will be determined later, according to the same source.
In conclusion, the two parties agreed to continue coordination and intensify consultations in the context of preparing for the upcoming bilateral and multilateral events.
