The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Ataf, arrived today in New York, the headquarters of the United Nations, on a working visit commissioned by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
The visit falls within the context of preparations for the elections to renew the non-permanent members of the Security Council, on the sixth of next June, by the General Assembly.
It is worth recalling that Algeria is participating in these elections as a candidate for the position of a non-permanent member of the Security Council during the period 2024-2025. Our country’s candidacy has already been endorsed and endorsed by the African Union, the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, as well as the support of many brotherly and friendly countries.
During his visit, the head of the Algerian diplomacy is expected to hold meetings with many representatives of the member states of the United Nations, as well as the Secretary-General and senior officials of this international organization, with the aim of reviewing the goals and priorities that our country will seek to achieve during its tenure in the Security Council and to mobilize more support in anticipation of the entitlement.
