Today, Saturday, the Minister of Communication, Mohamed Bouslimani, stressed in Tunisia the importance of developing a comprehensive and unified vision within the framework of joint Arab cooperation to confront the digital hegemony of major international media companies with the aim of protecting the interests of Arab countries and the values and principles of their societies.
In his speech during the second session of the Arab Media Conference on “Global Hegemony and Arab Ways to Confront It,” Bouslimani said, on January 13 and 14 in Tunis, that “the world today is living in an era of digital transformation that opened new horizons and great challenges, the most important of which is the Arab public’s orientation to digital platforms.” and the dominance of social networks in the media market.
He added, “These challenges require us to take serious steps to limit the damage resulting from them by developing a unified strategy in dealing with these companies in all aspects, especially with regard to media content and making joint and quick Arab decisions.”
The minister expressed his hope that the outcomes of this conference would constitute “a building block for developing a comprehensive and unified vision to confront the digital hegemony of major international media companies within the framework of joint and effective Arab cooperation in order to protect our common interests, values, principles and Arab societies.”
In this regard, Bouslimani highlighted the importance of “countries reviewing their laws, including the personal data protection law, cybersecurity and digital identity, in addition to everything related to technological development in terms of systems and legislation to ensure digital protection for all,” pointing out that “the exchange of expertise and experience in facing the risks of cybercrime And the establishment of strict Arab work mechanisms will enable the necessary protection from any penetration of local networks and ensure their safety.
By the way, the minister stated that “Algeria, which succeeded in organizing the first Arab digital summit last November, will spare no effort to make joint efforts to confront global digital hegemony a success,” adding that “in line with this trend, it is working to develop an appropriate legal system and find specialized institutions concerned with By ensuring the security of data and the credibility of information and activating the role of the media, including digital ones, especially through training.
He pointed out that “crimes introduced in cyberspace would affect national security if information vigilance is not activated,” especially in light of the presence of perpetrators who possess capabilities that should not be underestimated in the field of hacking protection systems.
Speaking about the conference, the Minister of Communication noted the “relentless efforts and endeavors of the League of Arab States to unite the Arab ranks in dealing with technology giants and confronting the digital hegemony imposed by these global companies,” appreciating in the context “the efforts of the Arab States Broadcasting Union in organizing this second conference and the good selection of its subject.”
