The General Directorate of Civil Protection published the outcome of the intervention of civil protection units during the last 48 hours.
During the period from 02 to 04 February 2023, the civil protection units recorded 4372 interventions in different regions of the country, and this was after receiving distress calls from citizens. These interventions included various fields of civil protection activities, whether related to traffic accidents, home accidents, health evacuation, Fire suppression and security services.
In the context of traffic accidents, the civil protection units carried out 221 interventions following several accidents recorded across several states, the latter of which resulted in the death of 10 people and the injury of 256 others with injuries of varying severity. The victims were taken care of on the spot and transferred to hospital services.
Our units also intervened to rescue and aid 68 people who had started to suffocate as a result of inhaling carbon monoxide (CO) gas emitted from heating devices, water heaters and bathrooms inside their homes, across several states of the country. The victims were taken care of on the spot and transferred to hospital institutions.
Unfortunately, 04 deaths from suffocation with carbon monoxide gas were recorded in each of the states of Tiaret, Relizane, Mila and Tebessa. The bodies of the victims were transferred by civil protection personnel to local hospitals.
The Civil Protection also intervened to extinguish 05 urban and different fires in the wilaya of Algiers, Constantine and M’sila. Our first aid intervention enabled these fires to be controlled and prevented from spreading to other nearby places.
