Coordination meeting to direct investment in nuclear energy technologies to medical use – Al-Hiwar Al-Jazaery

Today, Sunday, the Atomic Energy Governorate hosted a coordination meeting between sectors regarding the uses of nuclear energy in the field of human health, in implementation of the directives of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

And the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, the Minister of Health, Abd al-Haq Saihi, the Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry Ali Aoun, and the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamal Badari, held a coordination meeting regarding directing investment in nuclear energy technologies to medical use, especially radiotherapy. For cancer patients, and all other diseases that require this technology.

And according to a statement by the Ministry of Energy and Mines, during this meeting, which was held at the headquarters of the Atomic Energy Governorate, and in the presence of executives from the ministries, and from the governorate, as well as researchers from nuclear research centers, ways to enhance cooperation between the concerned sectors in the field of applying nuclear technologies in the field of human health were discussed. With an emphasis on the necessity of coordinating research projects, expert guidance, providing the necessary equipment, developing sectorally harmonized guidelines, as well as supporting training and knowledge exchange in this field. Several files were also discussed, the most important of which is ensuring the quality of radiation use in medicine for the safe and accurate treatment and care of diseases such as cancer.

It was also agreed, during this meeting, to set up a working group among the ministerial sectors concerned with this file.

The Minister of Energy and Mines and the Minister of Health supervised, at the beginning of this month, the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of two radiotherapy facilities for the benefit of patients with cancer at the level of the public hospital “Mohamed Bahra” Rouiba and the university hospital center of Beni Messous “Assaad Hassani”.
