Eid al-Adha: the market of handicrafts in Bou Saada, the destination for those looking for the “Bou Saadi knife” – Al-Hiwar Al-Jazaeryia

With the approach of each Eid al-Adha, the traditional crafts market in Bou Saada, in the state of M’sila, becomes the “favorite destination” for those wishing to acquire the “Bu Saadi knife” known for its sharpness and durability.

The market witnesses great movement days before Eid Al-Adha, where a large number of citizens visit it in search of the Al-Busaadi knife, which is known for its characteristics that distinguish it from other types of knives, beginning with its sharpness, which facilitates the process of slaughtering and skinning the sacrifice, and its durability and beautiful decorations that have been preserved since ancient times. And also its handle made of the finest types of wood, whose origin is usually due to the oak tree.

The prices of the Bousaadi knife, according to craftsmen in the same market, range from 3,000 DZD to 20,000 DZD, depending on the quality of the knife and the material from which it was made. Its price is also determined depending on the decorations that decorate the knife after its completion, according to the customer’s request.

More than 30 craftsmen practice their activity in this market, where many of them are engaged in the craft of making and selling the Busaadi knife, which is still steadfast despite the passage of time, in view of the symbolism that this tool carries in the region, according to the same craftsmen who highlighted that “the Busaadi knife represents a symbol of virility and strength for the townspeople.”

It should be noted that since the restoration of the traditional industries market in Bou Saada in 2009, it has become a destination for tourists and visitors to the same city because of its rich cultural heritage that expresses the history of the region, which reflects the state’s efforts to support craftsmen and traditional industries due to their importance from the economic side, from on the one hand, and to encourage domestic tourism on the other.
