Election of Algerian Judge Bensaula Shafiqa to membership in the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights – Al-Hiwar Al-Jazaeryia

Today, the Executive Council of the African Union, in its 42nd session, which is being held at the headquarters of the continental organization in Addis Ababa, elected Algeria’s candidate, Judge Bensaula Shafiqa, to membership in the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, within the framework of a second term of six years 2024-2030.
The election of Dr. Bensaula Shafika comes after Algeria nominated her for a second term as a judge at the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights. At the end of the election process, the Algerian candidate obtained a majority of 38 votes out of 41 voting countries. This reflects the great appreciation that Algeria enjoys under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in the field of protecting and promoting human and peoples’ rights at the continental level, as well as its continuous efforts to uphold the values ​​and principles enshrined in the Constitutive Charter of the African Union to serve the interests and peoples of the continent.
As a reminder, the court is composed of eleven judges who are citizens of the member states of the African Union, who are elected by the Executive Council composed of foreign ministers.
