Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Faisal Mekdad, said today, Sunday, that his country and Algeria will remain united in facing all the challenges facing the region and the world.
And in a press statement after the reception that the President of the Republic singled out for him, in his capacity as a special envoy of the Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad, at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic, Al-Miqdad said that Syria and Algeria “will not separate and will remain united in facing all the challenges facing the region and the world.”
He added that he conveyed to the President of the Republic a verbal message from his Syrian counterpart, related to the deep bilateral relations between the two countries and the developments taking place in the region.
The Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates added that the meeting with the Algerian President “gave us the opportunity to exchange views, to be enlightened by the Algerian positions and by the President’s honest analysis of the conditions the region and the world are going through,” referring to the President’s assertion that “the relations between the two countries are close, and that Algeria will not give up on Syria.” Whatever the difficulties, Syria was on the side of Algeria in all challenges, and this is what we look forward to in the existing relations between the two countries.
Al-Miqdad said, “Algeria, in its capacity as the head of the Arab Summit, assumed great responsibilities and defended the rights of this Arab people everywhere (…) and the leadership and people stood by Syria in all the challenges that we went through during the last period, and it originally wanted it not to be the Syrian Arab Republic.” Except in the heart of the Arab event, and in the heart of the Arab League, Arab solidarity and joint Arab action, in order to achieve achievements at the level of Arab reality.
In the context, he mentioned Algeria’s hosting of Palestinian delegations before the Arab summit, “in order to unify the Palestinian action, within the framework of resisting the Zionists of land and people, and this position that Syria shares with Algeria commands all our respect.”
Faisal Al-Miqdad expressed the greetings of the Syrian President to the Algerian leadership and people for their “sincere stance after the catastrophic earthquake that struck Syria, as one of the first teams to arrive to save the Syrian people was the Algerian team, which played a fundamental role that no Syrian can but remember with pride and pride.” And the aid received by the Algerian people is beyond description.”
