Fayed: The trans-Saharan gas pipeline is effective, and the African Development Bank may contribute to it – Al-Hiwar Al-Jazairia

The Minister of Finance, Aziz Fayed, affirmed the success of the Trans-Saharan gas pipeline project, which connects Nigeria with Europe via Algeria, and said that it is “a viable, supportable and profitable project on the economic and financial levels.”

The APS news agency quoted the minister, on the sidelines of his participation in the 58th annual sessions of the African Development Bank, which is taking place from 22 to 26 May in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, as saying that the sources of financing the Trans-Saharan gas pipeline project can only be mainly bankable, and he did not rule out the contribution of the African Development Bank. And based his speech on the recent statement of the President of the African Development Bank on this subject, which is considered a manifestation of the bank’s desire to finance the project, as the head of the African Development Bank complex, Akinwumi Adesina, said, “The gas pipeline is very important, and it is an investment that enjoys our support and the support of the African Union.” Fayed considered that there is no reason not to support a viable and profitable project. In the context, the source confirmed that studies will be conducted later to study this huge project in all its dimensions and to choose the appropriate financing method.

On the occasion, the Minister of Finance spoke about other large, structured, effective and strategic projects for African integration that link Algeria with Africa and that require large funds, such as the project to complete the road linking Tindouf and Zouerate in Mauritania, the sea line that connects the two countries, and the trans-Saharan road between Algeria and Lagos. And the project of the trans-Saharan optical fiber line, which will be completed in parallel with the trans-Saharan road at a distance of 4,500 km, as well as the railway link between Algeria and Tamanrasset.
