Hokkar: Algeria intends to put 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas on the market annually – Al-Hiwar Al-Jazaeryia

The CEO of the Sonatrach group, Toufik Hakkar, announced that Algeria intends to put on the market no less than 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually over the next five years.

“The Sonatrach complex will continue to provide its partners with proven, reliable, stable and sustainable supplies of natural gas as long as the demand for gas is guaranteed in the medium and long term,” Hokkar said in a speech he delivered on the occasion of the opening of the works of the seventh forum of the Algerian Gas Industry Association in Oran.

He pointed out that “the Sonatrach complex has made significant efforts to supply additional quantities of natural gas in 2022, in addition to fulfilling its obligations towards local and foreign customers,” adding that the complex intends to continue developing its gas capabilities in order to place additional quantities at the level of the national and international markets, especially the market. european.

On this occasion, the same official praised Sonatrach’s partners who continue to invest in Algerian gas (upstream), and encouraged international actors to join the group and work with it to put more natural gas resources on the market.

He stated that “Algeria provides a suitable environment for foreign investors in the (upstream) gas sector, with a clear regulatory framework, important reserves, advanced facilities, strategic partnerships and attractive tax benefits,” adding that “gas constitutes basic energy and has a future that contributes to a fair and comprehensive energy transition and contributes to energy security.”

Hokkar indicated that the Sonatrach complex is committed to preserving the environment by applying production and processing practices that respect the environment, highlighting that its complex has given priority to reducing gas flaring with the aim of achieving zero gas flaring in the horizons of 2030, in addition to plans to reduce methane gas emissions, which it wishes to complete and publish through all of its facilities.
