Italian Energy Minister: Algeria is our main supplier

The Italian Minister of Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Becchetto Frattin, confirmed that Algeria has become a major supplier of gas to Italy, but Rome still needs Russian gas, as it receives from it an average of 20 million cubic meters per day.

Today, Thursday, the Italian newspaper “La Stampa” quoted the Italian official as saying, “According to the latest data, 250 million cubic meters of gas arrived in Italy yesterday, of which 90 million were from Algeria, which has become our main supplier, but 30 million we are still buying from.” Russia, the average daily supply from Russia is 20 million cubic meters, fortunately we receive another 25 million cubic meters through TAP (Trans-Adriatic Gas Pipeline), about 10 million cubic meters from Norway and 45 million cubic meters of liquefied gas through gas stations.” .

Gilberto Pichetto Fratin considered that Italy should search for gas suppliers in the south after it had previously received it from the north, and that Russian gas would not be abandoned now, and he said regarding the energy crisis, “We have not left the tunnel yet, and we will succeed this winter, but there are serious concerns.” With the advent of May 2023, we will have to fill the storage facilities in preparation for the next winter season, and this is a difficult task.”
