Today, Sunday, at the level of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Algiers 1 “Ben Youssef Ben Khadda”, the activities of the University Mathematics Week were launched with the aim of highlighting the contribution of this scientific subject to economic and social development.
The organization of this university week came under the slogan “Mathematics and its interactions with the economic and social world” on the occasion of International Mathematics Day, which falls on March 14 of each year.
By the way, the director of the University of Algiers 1, Fares Mokhtari, said that “the future will be for artificial intelligence” and that Algeria “is invited to catch up with the train of development by giving support and value to mathematical sciences.”
In this regard, he urged researchers and laboratory managers to “direct mathematics towards the economic world and artificial intelligence in order to contribute to the development of the national economy,” considering that Algeria’s establishment of a national higher school of mathematics “is evidence of a well-thought-out strategy to form a distinguished elite capable of entering the world of artificial intelligence.”
In turn, Director of Technological Development and Innovation at the General Directorate of Scientific Research and Technological Development, Djilali Tasalit, confirmed that mathematics sciences “play a major role in various fields,” being – as he said – “the basis of all sciences, whether classical or new, such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and the Internet.” “.
In the same context, a professor of applied mathematics at the University of M’sila, Noureddine Ben Hamidouche, called for “changing the image of mathematics in society by including it in the development of professions related to it and controlling the theoretical and applied aspects.”
On the occasion, five students were honored among the winners of the mathematics challenge competition organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Students from the National Higher School of Mathematics in Sidi Abdellah, the Institute of Electronics in Boumerdes, the Higher School of Computer Information in Wadi El Semar and the Institute of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering in Boumerdes were crowned.
A partnership agreement was also signed between the National Higher School of Mathematics and the Ministry of Industry to enable students in the future to benefit from specialized training courses.
