Lazhar Soualem responds to the heresies of the Moroccan delegation before the Human Rights Council – Al-Hiwar Algeria

The permanent representative of Algeria to the UN Human Rights Council, Lazhar Soualem, responded yesterday, Wednesday in Geneva, to the new “market propaganda” that Morocco is leading against Algeria, denouncing his usual dramatic style of presenting an incomplete version of the issue of the decolonization of Western Sahara.
In his response to the statements of the Moroccan delegation during the 52nd session of the UN Human Rights Council, Mr. Soualem affirmed that “the market propaganda from which we heard some excerpts remains classic,” explaining that “the Kingdom has not stopped developing in this field, month after month and week after week, especially with The resounding statements circulated by the international press on this subject.
On the other hand, the Algerian diplomat indicated that the representative of Morocco, with “the dramatic representation he is accustomed to, has tried to present an incomplete version of the issue of decolonization, going so far as to seek to legitimize before our Council a certain concept of international law by invoking the existence of an international coalition that supports it in order to violate international law and legitimacy”.
In the same regard, the ambassador affirmed that “this method used by the representatives of the Kingdom aims to remove any evocation and any reference to the issue of the Sahrawi people’s exercise of their right to self-determination.”
And the representative of Algeria added that Morocco and the Moroccan authorities are sensitive to this reference when they stop the unfinished decolonization process in the African continent, for which important resources are allocated.
In his statement, the representative of Algeria also denounced the “systematic corruption policy that did not exclude any international institution, which was revealed at the level of the European Parliament,” stressing that “prominent members have been cooperating for 25 years in return for millions of euros through their complicit and criminal silence” in the face of human rights violations in Morocco and “imposing a blackout on the violations committed by the Moroccan occupation forces in Western Sahara, as well as the plundering of the natural resources of these lands, against the opinion of the European Court of Justice.”
In this context, he mentioned the use of the confirmed warehouse of the “Pegasus” system, which targeted its European partners who would identify themselves as well as its allies here in Geneva.
Finally, the Algerian ambassador criticized the practices of the Makhzen regime against all opponents, by leading “coordinated attacks from several places in the world against human rights defenders in Morocco, including Moroccans and foreigners, journalists, politicians, union leaders and countries, including Algeria, and through falsifying data and points of view in order to distort the image of the opposition.”
At the end of his statement, Algeria’s permanent representative to the UN Human Rights Council stressed that when corruption is the DNA and pillar of governance, the culture of denial and the policy of forgery, obtaining a seat on the Council is neither deserved nor legitimate, and it is not right to brag about any democratic credibility.
