Makkah Al-Mukarramah is on a date with an astronomical phenomenon tomorrow, Sunday – Al-Hiwar Al-Jazaeryya

Tomorrow, Sunday, the sky of Makkah Al-Mukarramah will witness an annual astronomical phenomenon, which is represented by the perpendicularity of the sun over the honorable Kaaba, which causes the disappearance of the shadow of the Kaaba and all objects in the perpendicular area.

And the sun will perpendicular to the Kaaba for the first time during the year 2023, tomorrow, Sunday, at 12:18 noon, Mecca Al-Mukarramah time, by the time of the noon call to prayer.

And the astronomical society in Jeddah stated that the moment of perpendicularity, the sun will reach its maximum height by approximately 90 degrees, which will lead to the disappearance of the shadow of the Kaaba completely, as well as the shadows of all objects in Makkah, so that the shadow of meridian becomes zero.

She noted that areas located at latitudes less than 23.5 degrees north and south witness the phenomenon of the sun perpendicular to the Kaaba twice a year, but at different times depending on the latitude of that place, and it is characterized by a few places confined between the equator and the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.

The sky of Makkah Al-Mukarramah witnesses the phenomenon of the sun perpendicular to the Kaaba twice a year, as a result of the inclination of the Earth’s axis of rotation at an angle of 23.5 degrees, which leads to the transition of the sun “apparently” between the Tropics of Cancer in the north and Capricorn in the south, passing through the equator during the Earth’s rotation around the sun.

In a related context, the Emirates Astronomy Society announced that the noon shadow will fade during the coming days in the southern regions of the country, including Umm Al-Zamul, Jaisura, Muzaira, Liwa, Madinat Zayed and Al-Qua, according to the Emirates News Agency, WAM.

Ibrahim Al-Jarwan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association, said that the sun will perpendicular in these areas, starting from the 6th of next July, over the latitude circles that include the southern regions of the Emirates, so that the absence of the shadow of the noon will be around 12:25 noon UAE time.

He pointed out that the first perpendicular to the sun at noon on the far south of the Emirates will be on the 6th of June near the Umm Al-Zamoul area, and then it will creep towards the north to reach Madinat Zayed with the date of the summer solstice on the 21st of June, and then return towards the south near Umm Al-Zamoul on the 8th. From July, to move after the 10th of July towards the south outside the borders of the Emirates, so that the shadow of the demise begins to expand.

The phenomenon of perpendicularity has been used since ancient times to determine the direction of the qiblah in an accurate manner, by using a piece of wood erected perpendicular to the surface of the earth at the time of perpendicularity, and through the shadow the qiblah is determined, so that the opposite direction of the shadow is an indicator towards the Kaaba, for all residents in areas far from Mecca In the Arab countries and regions bordering the North Pole, Africa, Europe, China, Russia and East Asia.

This phenomenon is also exploited in many mathematical calculations, such as calculating the circumference of the globe without the need for modern technologies, using some simple rules in geometry, which date back to more than 2000 years, and is also considered direct evidence of the sphericity of the Earth.
