The Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, affirmed today, Tuesday, that the national integration of manufacturing equipment and spare parts necessary for the activities of the sector is an “integral part” of the development plans in the same field, through the completion of industrial projects in partnership with foreigners and the encouragement of subcontracting activity.
The minister explained that directives were given to officials of the sector’s companies in order to promote national integration, and to find outreach opportunities for the benefit of Algerian institutions, small and medium-sized companies, and emerging companies, whether public or private, that create wealth.
The minister stated that companies operating in the energy and mining sector have taken the initiative to develop a strategy to develop local content in their activities, especially by localizing the manufacture of equipment with complex technology in Algeria in partnership with foreign dealers and participating in the establishment of new Algerian institutions based on innovation, competitiveness, quality and knowledge. .
These institutions, the minister adds, have eased the procedures and conditions of tenders in order to allow national companies to enter them, as well as reserving a percentage of orders for goods and services for the benefit of small enterprises, in addition to resorting to national deals instead of international ones, as well as consensual deals if the local product conforms to the technical conditions.
The minister highlighted that this strategy culminated at the level of the Sonelgaz complex, with the embodiment of a number of projects on the ground, such as the turbine production plant in partnership between Sonelgaz and General Electric, where a number of turbines were exported abroad, in addition to control systems and turbine accessories that were manufactured and assembled in Algeria.
In addition to this project, the Sonelgaz Group has entered into several partnerships to complete other projects, including a compound for the manufacture of heaters and heat exchangers, as well as a factory for transformers and another for electrical insulators made of tempered glass.
The minister stated that his ministerial department had recently signed two cooperation agreements with the higher education sectors as well as emerging and small institutions to establish a mixed company in the field of producing and marketing carbon monoxide gas leak sensors, in implementation of the outcomes of the cabinet meeting held last January.
In addition, Sonelgaz has been commissioned to launch, through its subsidiary Sonelgaz Renewable Energies, a national and international tender for the construction of 15 solar photovoltaic plants with a total capacity of 2000 megawatts distributed over 11 states of the south and the high plateaus, in implementation of the national program for renewable energies.
