The Ministry of National Defense responded, in a correspondence signed in the name of the Secretary-General, Major General Mohamed Al-Saleh Ben Bisha, addressed to the President of the National People’s Assembly, Ibrahim Bougali, to the petitions submitted by 3 deputies in the Assembly, to settle the status of the youth group whose ages ranged between January 1, 1991 and December 31, 1996. In favor of this category negatively affects the recruitable resource, and therefore the ability to respect recruitment schemes.
The source confirmed that the ministry has taken some measures related to exemption and settling the situation with regard to national service, represented in exempting citizens born in 1990 and earlier, in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 20-164 of June 24, 2020, which includes the exemption of some citizens subject to national service obligations. In addition to regularizing the status of those born between January 1, 1991 and December 31, 1995, and those who completed or abandoned their studies before December 31, 2015 and who are not in a disputed situation.
