Today, Wednesday, university professors and interventionists confirmed during a meeting organized in Jijel on the occasion of the 41st anniversary of the departure of the Mujahid Muhammad al-Siddiq Ibn Yahya (1932-1982) that the man was truly the man of Algerian diplomacy and world peace.
Hussein Khalidi, director of the Mujahideen and rights holders in the state, highlighted in his intervention during the celebration held at the Mujahid Museum that Mohamed Siddik Ben Yahia was “a distinguished engineer in the Evian agreements and one of the men of Algerian diplomacy and world peace, given what he presented during his struggle and political career, both locally and internationally.”
Mr. Khalidi added that the personality of the deceased was distinguished by “wisdom, sophistication and poise, and left its immortal imprints since the outbreak of the glorious liberation revolution, passing through the interim government and then the Evian negotiations, leading to his assuming high positions in the state as Minister of Higher Education, then Minister of Finance (1977) and then Minister of Foreign Affairs (1977). 1979) and dazzled the world with his eloquence, correctness of opinion, and diplomatic acumen, and contributed to the recovery of the first part of the archives of Algeria in France. He also played a pivotal role in the release of the American hostages held in Tehran (Iran).
For his part, the university professor specializing in history, Abd al-Rahman Boughara, considered that Muhammad al-Siddiq bin Yahya “was a brilliant man from an early age, and it was known that he was the first auditor of the texts of the Evian agreements, which made many call him the ‘point and comma’.”
Mr. Boughara touched on the necessity of giving the man special attention by studying his career, scrutinizing it, teaching it to students and encouraging them to research and delve into it.
In turn, Professor Izz al-Din Ma’za, a specialist in local history, praised the personality of Muhammad al-Siddiq bin Yahya, whose “outstanding diplomacy was not limited to the local level only, but also reached its global resonance. There were many mediation efforts in resolving the case, but the good reputation that Algeria enjoyed, as well as Muhammad al-Siddiq bin Yahya, made it possible to put an end to the case and free all the hostages.
For reference, on the sidelines of the celebration, an exhibition on the career of this personality was held, and a videotape was shown entitled “The Symbol Mujahid Muhammad Al-Siddiq Bin Yahya.” Academic interventions were also made by university professors, as well as honoring a representative of the family of the late Mujahid.
