More than 672 tons of waste were removed in the capital in 2022 – Al-Hiwar Al-Jazairia

During the year 2022, more than 672,000 tons of household and similar waste were removed and transported in the capital, at a rate of more than 1,841 tons per day, according to the public institution for the collection and transportation of household and similar waste in the wilaya of Algiers (Extra Net).

And in a statement to the Algerian News Agency, Mohamed Daoudi, a managing director of the institution, explained that the latter, which intervenes at the level of 31 municipalities and covers an area estimated at 675 square kilometers (81 percent of the total area of ​​the wilaya of Algiers), carried out the past year with 422,136 A process for removing household and similar waste, i.e. an average of 374 operations per day.

The establishment’s workers, numbering 5,813 workers, including 5,305 execution assistants, carried out several tasks in this regard, including sweeping operations that took place on a total area of ​​1,791.64 square kilometers, of which 85.05 square kilometers were mechanically sweeping, according to the official, who explained that In 2022, the roads were washed on a total area of ​​161.49 km².

Daoudi continued that the Foundation redoubled its efforts during the fourth quarter of the year 2022, on the occasion of Algeria’s hosting of important international and regional demonstrations (the Arab Summit that coincided with the Revolution Day of the 1st of November), and it also took upon itself, since October, to clean all places of reception for delegations participating in these demonstrations. Similar to the International Conference Center, as well as all the roads and paths leading to it.

He added that the Foundation has drawn up a work program on the occasion of the African Nations Championship, which started on January 13th and will continue its activities until February 4th, explaining that, by the way, more than 500 aid and 50 trucks of various types were harnessed throughout the days of the competition.

In the same context, he revealed that a special unit has been created with the task of manual and mechanical sweeping and daily cleaning of the southern and northern highways, consisting of 95 sweepers and 4 mechanical sweepers.

According to the official, this program includes cleaning the main stadium in Baraki (Nelson Mandela Stadium), the national teams preparation center in Sidi Moussa, and other stadiums that host the training of the participating teams, in addition to cleaning all the shelters for the teams and their accompanying delegations, as well as a manual sweeping process.
