The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, confirmed, yesterday evening, Thursday in Algiers, on the eve of the launch of the seventh edition of the 2022 African Nations Championship (postponed to 2023) and scheduled in Algeria from January 13 to February 4, that it will be “the most successful in history.” And it will contribute “to the development of next football in Algeria and Africa.”
Motsepe said during a press conference at the Nelson Mandela stadium in Baraki (Algiers), saying, “We are confident that this edition of “Al Shan” will be the most successful in history. I am proud to have participated in the inauguration of the stadium of Nelson Mandela, who is a very important figure in the world. Algeria has world-class facilities, which allow the development of football in Algeria and Africa.”
He added, “CAF pays special attention to this competition, which concerns local players, and on this basis we raised the competition prizes, to encourage African countries with the aim of improving the level of local players and promoting football in our continent.”
He stressed the importance of the revenues generated by organizing such African tournaments, similar to the opening match of “Chan-2022” between Algeria and Libya, scheduled for tomorrow, Friday (20:00) at the Nelson Mandela stadium, which will be held in closed booths.
“Algeria and its people have always honored the African continent in various international competitions,” he said in this regard.
Granting the “CAN-2025” incubation: the success of the “Al-Shan” organization is an important criterion
With regard to granting the honor of organizing the 2025 African Cup of Nations, Motsepe considered that “the success of organizing the matter will be a basic criterion in the decision to grant the next Cannes organization,” stressing that the candidacy files will be studied “with equality and transparency.”
And he stated, “We have received five candidacy files for the Cannes-2025 embrace, including a bilateral organization between two countries (Nigeria-Benin). But we have special conditions for granting the organization of this competition.”
He also stated, “We want Al-Kan to pass through the various regions of Al-Kaf. And the 2025 edition will not be in the same region as the 2023 tournament (postponed to 2024 / Côte d’Ivoire).
It is noteworthy that five countries, including Algeria, submitted their candidacy files for the honor of hosting “Can-2025”, after CAF decided to withdraw the organization of this tournament from Guinea last October, due to the delay recorded at the level of facilities.
