Ratification of the two draft laws on retirement and official holidays – Al-Hiwar Al-Jazairia

Today, Tuesday, deputies of the National People’s Assembly approved, by majority, a draft law amending and supplementing Law No. 83-12 amending and supplementing retirement, and a draft law amending Law No. 63-278 defining the list of official holidays.
The plenary session took place to vote on the two draft laws, which was chaired by the Speaker of the Council, Ibrahim Bogali, in the presence of the Minister of Relations with Parliament, Basma Azwar, and the Minister of Health, Abdelhak Saihi, on behalf of the Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security, Faisal bin Taleb.
After the vote, Mr. Saihi affirmed that these two projects “embodied the commitments of the President of the Republic, aimed at taking care of the concerns of citizens, in order to achieve their aspirations for a decent life.”
He stressed that the law amending and complementing the provisions of Articles 16 and 47 of Law No. 12-83 related to retirement is “another step in the approach of social justice policy, and improving the purchasing power of retirees, especially those with low incomes.”
On the other hand, the minister highlighted that the law amending the provisions of Article 1 of Law No. 63-278, which includes extending the paid vacation granted on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha from two to three days, “will enable citizens to celebrate these two religious occasions more comfortably, in order to achieve manifestations of compassion and social cohesion.” .
In turn, the head of the Health, Social Affairs, Labor and Vocational Training Committee, Khalaf Riyad, confirmed that voting on the draft law related to retirement is a “consecration of the social character of the state” and falls within the framework of promoting the values of solidarity and social protection.
Mr. Khallaf added that extending the holiday period for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha to three days allows for “upgrading labor legislation in line with the traditions of family communication, kinship ties, and family reunification on these religious occasions.”
