The African Summit in Addis Ababa kicks off tomorrow, Saturday – Al-Hiwar Algeria

Tomorrow, Saturday, over two days, in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, the 36th Ordinary Summit of the African Union will start, which will take place under the slogan “Accelerating the pace of embodying the African Continental Free Trade Area,” with the participation of Prime Minister Ayman bin Abdelrahman, representative of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

In preparation for the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, on Wednesday and Thursday, the 42nd session of the Executive Council of the continental organization was held, which discussed many reports related to peace, security and development in Africa and the renewal of membership of some subsidiary bodies, as well as draft decisions that will be presented to the next summit.

The 42nd session of the Executive Council of the organization, in which the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ramtane Lamamra, participated, concluded its deliberations, yesterday evening, Thursday, with the adoption of draft reports and decisions that will be submitted to the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, whose agenda will include the presentation of a number of relevant reports. The dilemmas facing the brown continent and others related to the work of the continental organization.

Among the programmed interventions, a report will be presented by the Senegalese President, Macky Sall, on “Global Policy Governance, Finance and Energy Policy”, and a report on “Institutional Reforms in the African Union”, which will be presented by Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda, and another will be addressed by the President of South Africa, Matamela Cyril. Ramaphosa, section on the African Union’s response to the challenges of the Corona epidemic (Covid-19).

The summit will also discuss, in addition to the main theme related to the African Free Trade Area, other reports related to the state of peace and security in Africa and climate change.

It is noteworthy that the evening period, from today, Friday, will mark the meeting of the High-level Committee of the African Union on Libya under the chairmanship of Denis Sassou Nguesso, which includes Algeria, South Africa, Sudan, Chad and Tunisia.
