And the governor of the Syrian city of Aleppo met with representatives of the Algerian Civil Protection, Lieutenant Colonel Boucherifi Nasser and the commander of the intervention regiment, Captain Tigrin Hisham, where he presented them with the “Shield of the Governorate of Aleppo” in appreciation of the efforts made, according to a statement by the Civil Protection. The Algerian ambassador to Syria accompanied the Algerian delegation to Aleppo Airport in order to see them off, where he delivered a farewell speech to them, praising their great efforts during their stay in Syria within the framework of the search and rescue mission in the State of Syria, which was ordered by the President of the Republic, Abdel Majeed Tebboune, in the first hours after the earthquake at dawn on Monday.
And the search and rescue operations in the Syrian city of Aleppo, which were carried out by the civil defense teams, including the Algerian team, ended after the closure of the “Bustan al-Qasr” and “Al-Salihin neighborhood”. On the other hand, the Algerian rescue team in Turkey continues the mission.
This morning, the General Directorate of Civil Protection published the outcome of its interventions in both Syria and Turkey since February 6, the date of the devastating earthquake that left more than 35,000 dead. The statement indicates that the Algerian rescue team was able to rescue 13 people from under the dam alive, while 92 bodies were recovered in Turkey. In Syria, one person was rescued, while 34 bodies were recovered from under the graves as of 7:00 am today, Monday.
