A delegation from the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Diaspora, headed by Salim Merah, Chairman of the Committee, held talks today, Thursday, at the headquarters of the United States Embassy in Algiers, with Ambassador Elizabeth Mor-Open.
The meeting dealt with ways to enhance relations between the two countries in various fields, especially with regard to parliamentary diplomacy, as well as prospects for good relations between the National People’s Assembly and the Congress.
For her part, HE the Ambassador appreciated the work of the Foreign Affairs Committee and expressed her satisfaction with the outcomes of the recent visit that Merah, accompanied by a parliamentary delegation, made to the United States of America within the framework of the work of the World Parliamentary Forum 2023, which was held in Washington.
By the way, the two parties welcomed the decision of the President of the Republic to open a direct air line between Algeria and New York, in view of the economic and commercial benefits that it hopes to achieve, as well as the facilities that it can provide to members of our expatriate community. They expressed their hope that it will enter into service as soon as possible.
On the other hand, the two parties appreciated the efforts to expand bilateral cooperation in the field of English language education. In this context, HE the Ambassador revealed a plan to open two cultural centers for the United States in Algeria, to be added to the five centers that were previously opened.
In addition, the two sides discussed other issues such as the allocation of some scholarships for post-graduation students, especially master’s and doctoral students, before Mr. Merah invited the Ambassador to visit a number of interior regions in Algeria to discover their beauty and attractiveness.
It is noteworthy that this meeting, which came at the invitation of Her Excellency the Ambassador, was attended by Ahmed Bassin, Vice-Chairman of the Committee, accompanied by Mr. Ibrahim Dakhinat, Vice-Chairman of the Friendship Group “Algeria – WMA”, as well as Mr. Walid Skouli, member of the Friendship Group.
