The Director of International Cooperation at the National Office for Combating Drugs and Drug Addiction, Judge Daoudi, warned of the high rate of drug consumption among young people, especially adolescents, while a national index of medical prescriptions has been created to follow up on “suspicious prescriptions.”
Daoudi said, today, Sunday, during the radio program “Guest of the Morning”, that Algeria’s fight against the scourge of drugs is advanced on 3 levels, based on strengthening the pillar of society, which is the youth category according to a multidimensional strategy whose pillars are education and quality training. He stressed the introduction of new procedures within the new law for the prevention of drugs and human trafficking, which was approved recently. These procedures are represented in the establishment of a national index of medical prescriptions, which allows tracking the course of the medical prescription and ensuring its authenticity, provided that it is at the disposal of doctors, pharmacists, judicial officers and customs, as pharmacists are required to notify each suspicious prescription that is not in line with legal and regulatory standards.
According to Judge Daoudi, the article of extradition of the observer was approved, which will allow following up the shipment of drugs and psychotropic substances and dismantling the heads of drug trafficking networks, considering that combating the phenomenon requires the intervention of everyone from ministerial sectors and associations, as statistics indicate a rise in the rate of drug consumption from 2.51 percent. to 9.2 percent. Among this percentage, cannabis consumers represent 7.2 percent, while the consumption rate among adolescents increased in a worrying way, reaching 3.61 percent, as work is underway to ensure good health care for addicts and enable them to receive treatment.
