The marketing value of household and similar waste, which was valued during the first quarter of last year 2022, rose to 243 billion DZD, according to an official at the National Waste Agency.
The acting head of the household waste department, Aqila Boudhraa, explained that the household and similar waste valuation sector has witnessed a remarkable recovery since 2022, as the marketing value moved from 151 billion DZD in the second semester of 2021 to 243 billion DZD in the first semester of 2022 (the last available figure).
The official mainly attributed this “quantitative leap” to the increase in the revenues of the Plastics Recycling Division.
In this context, she also referred to the number of incentives and advantages offered by the National Waste Agency to dealers in the field of valuation, especially through its information bank, which allows facilitating dealings between them, and extracting market indicators to put their projects into effect, with the possibility of obtaining waste prices circulating in the market.
Boudra’a also touched on the Waste Exchange, which is a digital platform that enables dealers and stakeholders in the field of valuation to place their advertisements for the sale of recovered waste, with the possibility of benefiting from technical accompaniment from the agency and obtaining solutions to the problems they face in the field, as well as attending all the activities organized by the agency to introduce their activities.
And the number of registered dealers at the level of the National Center for the Commercial Register, active in the field of managing and evaluating household waste, reached 32 thousand institutions during the past year 2022.
The official pointed out that the National Center for the Commercial Register currently includes 18 symbols related to the valorization and recycling of waste of all kinds, stressing that new symbols will be put in place soon in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Renewable Energies and the Ministry of Commerce and Export Promotion.
It is noteworthy that Algeria seeks to valorize 30 percent of household and similar waste by 2035, which will provide 18,000 direct jobs.
