The Minister of Health, Abdelhak Saihi, supervised the revival of the activities of the World AIDS Day, which falls on Thursday, December 1, under the title “Let’s push for equality” and “Let’s fight inequality to end AIDS”, in coordination with the United Nations AIDS Organization, at the Algiers Hotel in Algiers.
During this occasion, the Minister revealed the most important goals that Algeria has enshrined within the National Strategic Plan 2020-2024 to combat inequality to eradicate AIDS and the mechanisms that seek a fair and qualitative treatment, saying that among the priority goals that Algeria has enshrined, is to accelerate the protection of the most vulnerable groups. Sayhi added that Algeria also aims, according to its strategy to protect against this disease, to strengthen prevention, detection, treatment and care activities
He continued, “Also accompanying people living with HIV, with the support of civil society.”
He also highlighted behaviors at risk of contracting the AIDS virus, such as drug use – he says – by injection, and migration phenomena, stressing that they are factors of weakness that must be taken into consideration.
The minister praised the quality of the partnership between Algeria and the United Nations program for combating AIDS, which enabled our country to make great progress in this field.
In the context, he thanked the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations Organization and the country’s partners in the agencies of the United Nations Organization, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the United Nations Development Program and the International Organization for Migration, for their contribution to the implementation of the strategic national plan
