The Muslim World League condemned the burning of copies of the Holy Qur’an by extremists in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, in a new disgraceful and provocative scene against the feelings of Muslims.
In a statement, the Secretary of the League and Chairman of the Association of Muslim Scholars, Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, denounced the extremists’ insistence on repeating these reckless actions under the pretext of freedom of expression, while in reality they offend – among their offenses – the concept of freedoms and their human values.
He renewed the warning against the dangers of hateful practices and provocation of religious feelings, which only serve the agendas of extremism, and disturb the voice of reason and efforts to promote dialogue and harmony among followers of religions.
He said, “While we greatly appreciate the broad international solidarity – official and popular – with Islamic sentiments regarding these absurd and heinous crimes, we urge all governments to be aware of the dangers of these barbaric and irresponsible practices, and to take swift and resolute measures in confronting them.”
He concluded by noting that these barbaric risks will only increase Muslims in faith with their faith, and steadfastness in their values that always call for peace and coexistence, and will only increase them sincerely around their national states, and an effective contribution to strengthening their stability and harmony, and insistence on missing opportunities for the bets of extremist ideologies. Which will fail and must – with God’s help – in front of the high Islamic awareness.
