Today, Thursday, the National Observatory of Civil Society in Algiers honored the Saharawi football team, whose establishment was announced a few days ago.
The honoring ceremony, which was attended by civil society actors, featured several interventions praising the birth of this team, coinciding with the commemoration of the double fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the Polisario Front and the outbreak of the armed struggle, and considered it another step added to the steps of the struggle of the Sahrawi people against the Moroccan occupation, so that sport would be an aspect of the struggle. For the sake of freedom and independence.
In his intervention, the head of the Observatory, Noureddine Ben Ibrahim, affirmed the Algerian civil society’s support for the Saharawi team, “which carries the Sahrawi cause through the adoration of the masses in all parts of the world, including defining the right of the Saharawi people, who are intended to be absent, postponed and marginalized at times.”
Ben Brahm stressed that the Sahrawi issue is a right and just issue, pointing to the use of double standards to delay the pace of resolving the issue of the occupied Sahrawi people by the Makhzen regime, and to enable them to exercise their right to self-determination and independence.
He added, “The Saharawi and Palestinian issues are not on the negotiating tables, because the matter here is based on different and contradictory interests, but rather in the conscience of humanity and everyone who believes in human rights, freedom and justice of a people struggling for their cause and independence.”
For his part, the head of the Algerian National Committee for Solidarity with the Sahrawi People, Said Ayachi, considered the birth of a national team for Western Sahara “a new tool in the arsenal of the Sahrawi people’s struggle for self-determination and independence,” calling on the members of this team to draw inspiration from the experience of the National Liberation Front team, And to follow in his footsteps, and he is the one who honored Algeria in the world, as he carried the message and struggle of Algerian liberation to all continents.
Ayachi directed his words to the members of the Sahrawi football team, saying: “From now on, you have a lofty mission, along with the combat units of the Sahrawi army. “.
For his part, Counselor at the SADR Embassy in Algeria, Moussa Ziou, who attended on behalf of the Sahrawi Ambassador, Abdelkader Taleb Omar, expressed in his intervention the gratitude of the Sahrawis for fifty years of accompanying and advocating for the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence, and for their just cause.
Moussa Ziou thanked everyone who contributed, from near or far, to the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Polisario Front and the outbreak of the armed struggle.
In the same context, the head of the Sahrawi Sports Federation, Ahmed Baba Yahya Bouhabini, highlighted that the national duty of Sahrawi athletes is to raise awareness of the justice of the Sahrawi cause through sports, so that the matter is in line with what the Sahrawi soldiers are doing on the battle fronts, pointing out that the formation of a Sahrawi team and announcing its inclination is Algeria is considered a “historic station”.
The spokesman explained that the responsibility that the players of the Saharawi team bear on them is “great,” noting that they are proceeding on “a clear path, which is the path of the National Liberation Front team, which will enable us to participate in international football forums, publicize our cause and raise our flag.”
It is noteworthy that the Saharawi football team will hold a friendly match soon in Venezuela, after receiving an invitation from the latter.
