The Portuguese President hosted today, Tuesday, a dinner banquet in honor of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who is on a two-day state visit to Portugal, accompanied by a senior delegation.
President Tebboune said touching words on the memory of Manuel Teixeira Gomez, the first president of Portugal, saying that Gomez is a witness to the communication between two peoples who share the same values and principles.
Adding in the same context: “Gomez loved Algeria and chose to live there in defense of the freedom and dignity of his country until he was buried in its pure soil.”
President Tebboune made statements on this occasion, saying: “I am happy to be in your beautiful country, which is united by deep bonds of friendship and the common struggle for freedom and democracy with Algeria.”
The President of the Republic added: “I extend to you my congratulations in advance on the occasion of the “Portugal Day”, which you will celebrate in early June. We congratulate ourselves on the occasion of the 210th anniversary of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship signed between Algeria and the Kingdom of Portugal on June 14, 1813.
President Tebboune revealed his pride in what unites the two countries in terms of the solid traditions of friendship established by successive generations of men and women loyal to their principles, as he said.
