The President of Uganda arrives in Algeria - the Algerian dialogue

On Saturday, the President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, arrived in Algiers, as part of a state visit to Algeria that will last until Tuesday, at the invitation of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

Upon his arrival at Houari Boumediene International Airport, President Museveni was received by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, accompanied by the Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Mr. Lieutenant General Said Chanegriha, and members of the government.

Presidents Tebboune and Museveni listened to the national anthems of the two countries before they reviewed the formations of the various forces of the People’s National Army, who gave them the honorary salute, at a time when the artillery was firing shots welcoming the guest of Algeria.

After that, the two presidents greeted the members of the delegations of the two countries and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to Algeria.

This visit is of particular importance, as it will add another brick in the process of consolidating the positive dynamic witnessed by the brotherly relations and cooperation between the two countries, strengthening their joint commitment in favor of the issues of the African continent, and confirming their aspirations towards achieving peace and development for its peoples.

The positions of Algeria and Uganda coincide in championing the right of peoples to freedom and independence, which was confirmed by the Ugandan Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of regional cooperation, during his participation, last January, in the 16th conference of the Polisario Front in the state of Dakhla in the Sahrawi refugee camps, when he said that his country, the people and the government, are recruited “With an instinctive commitment to defending peoples’ right to freedom and independence,” he conveyed a message from the Ugandan president stating that “his country is committed to supporting the Sahrawi people and their just cause,” and their right to freedom and independence.

In this context, Mr. Mulimba highlighted the belief and conviction of the ruling party in Uganda, headed by Yoweri Museveni, that the African Union “is required to fulfill its obligations to defend the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and to dedicate their state, which is a founding member of the African Union.”

On the diplomatic level, Algeria and Uganda have concluded an agreement on mutual visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and mission passports, in addition to a memorandum of understanding on bilateral political consultation. The joint favor of uniting the African ranks.

The field of bilateral cooperation between Algeria and Uganda also extends to the economic aspect, as they recorded their keenness to upgrade their economic partnership, “in a way that allows for better exploitation of the capabilities available to them.”
