On July 2 and 3, 2023, the second session of the Algerian-Italian Strategic Dialogue on bilateral relations and comprehensive political and security issues was held in Algiers, under the co-chairmanship of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Lunas Mokarman, and the Secretary-General of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ricardo Gariglia.
This bilateral mechanism embodies the common will of the higher authorities of the two countries to work towards deepening and strengthening bilateral cooperation, in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding signed in Algiers, between Algeria and Italy, on December 05, 2020, which established this strategic dialogue.
This session enabled the two parties to conduct a phased assessment of bilateral cooperation and its prospects, in areas of common interest, in light of the outcomes of the first session of this strategic dialogue, which was held in Rome on March 29, 2022, as well as the recommendations approved by the two parties during the fourth session of the bilateral summit held in Algiers in July 19, 2022.
In this context, Mograman held in-depth talks with his Italian counterpart on the Algerian-Italian bilateral relations as well as on regional and international issues of common interest, such as the issue of Western Sahara and the situations in Libya, Mali and the Sahel region.
In conclusion, the two Secretary Generals signed the minutes of the session meeting, and a cooperation agreement was signed between the Algerian News Agency and the Italian Nova Agency.
On the other hand, Ricardo Gariglia was received by Ahmed Ataf, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad.
