Several trade union organizations in the higher education sector welcomed the decisions taken by the President of the Republic, Mr. Algerian University and enable it to contribute to national development.
In this regard, the national coordinator of the National Council of Higher Education Professors, Abdel Hafeez Milat, considered that the decisions are a “historic day” for the university family and would “rehabilitate the Algerian university after years of waiting, especially since the basic law has not been amended since 2008 and the compensatory system is stalling.” has been in place since 2010.
He added that the decision to revise the Basic Law “is consistent with the new vision of the Algerian University, which seeks to move from training and awarding degrees to a wealth-producing actor and a contributor to the implementation of development programs.”
For his part, the Secretary-General of the National Federation of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Masoud Amarneh, said that the recent decisions “translate what the state devotes in the context of implementing one of the commitments of the President of the Republic aimed at making the university the locomotive of society and its strategic resource to advance science and knowledge and encourage innovation in the service of national development.”
Mr. Amarneh also praised the decision to hire holders of master’s and doctoral degrees, describing it as “brave and wise” and would “preserve the competencies of Algeria and its university elites.”
In turn, the head of the National Syndicate of University Hospital Research Professors, Professor Rachid Belhaj, appreciated the decisions of the President of the Republic, highlighting that they will “reflect positively” on this group, especially with regard to raising researchers’ wages and strengthening the status of doctors.
The same spokesman believes that this step would “confront the migration of Algerian talents by rehabilitating them and enabling them to contribute to building the university of tomorrow and controlling advanced technologies.”
Mr. Belhadj explained that “motivating the Algerian competencies, which various countries are flocking to, will allow them to contribute to strengthening the status of scientific research, especially by publishing scientific articles in international journals, which will raise the ranking of the Algerian university globally.”
For reference, the President of the Republic had ordered a comprehensive review of the Basic Law for Higher Education Professors, as well as a review of the wages of professors and university researchers of all academic degrees.
The President of the Republic also approved the proposals of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, which include the employment and integration of holders of master’s and doctoral degrees in university positions.
