Turkey’s Supreme Electoral Council announces the results of the presidential elections after counting 99% of the votes – Al-Hiwar Al-Jazaery

The head of Turkey’s Supreme Electoral Council, Ahmed Yanar, stated that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is still ahead of his main rival, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, in the presidential elections. As he obtained 49.42% after counting more than 99% of the votes, compared to Kilicdaroglu getting 44.95%, while Sinan Ogan got 5.20% of the votes.

Yanar added today, Monday, that the announcement of the unofficial results will be after the completion of sorting all the boxes, and counting the ballot votes abroad. The head of the Supreme Council for Elections pointed out that 27 boxes from inside Turkey and 1529 from abroad have not yet been opened.

To win the presidential election, one of the main candidates must receive more than 50% of the vote, and the announced results open the way for a second round on May 28. It will be a precedent in the history of the modern Turkish Republic.

In a speech to a crowd of his supporters in front of the headquarters of the Justice and Development Party in Ankara, Turkish President Erdogan said that the current results show his lead over his rival Kemal Kilicdaroglu in the presidential elections, pending the announcement of the official results.

And he stated that the counting of votes abroad continues, adding that he is ahead of up to two million and 600 thousand votes over his competitor.

On the other hand, the opposition candidate, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, confirmed that he would win the first round, and said that he would accept a second round, and referred to what he called the decline in the votes granted to the Justice and Development Party.
