The Minister of Industry, Ahmed Zagdar, affirmed his sector’s readiness to accompany dealers in the field of iron and steel, with the aim of overcoming all obstacles facing investors and working to create a suitable work environment and quality infrastructure that responds to aspirations and makes the Algerian product of quality and conforms to international standards.
During the inauguration of the International Exhibition of Iron, Steel and Mining Materials, the Minister of Industry revealed that the Iron and Steel Division was able to produce 3.5 million tons of this material. That is, 10.8 percent of the production of Arab countries. After its production increased by 16.4 percent in 2021, in addition to exporting approximately five hundred thousand 500 thousand tons of iron, steel, concrete, machine wires and flat iron.
Zagdar stated, in a related context, that “the Hajjar complex in Annaba occupies a strategic location within the base of heavy industry and a pioneer in the steel industry, and it has contributed to the development of a network of public and private industrial units, which depend on iron products in its economic activity.” 800,000 tons of flat and long iron materials, concrete steel, pipes and others.
Minister Zagdar also announced that the second condition of the investment plan for oxygen generators, which is still pending, will soon begin. It includes modernizing and renewing the generators and the oxygen unit and the acquisition of equipment for the production chain to enable the factory to regain its competitiveness and cross the threshold of 1.2 million tons of iron.
Zagdar also noted the production capabilities of the Bellara iron and steel complex, saying: “It is a successful model for the Arab partnership that brought our country together with the Qatari partner, as it also recorded a production rate of 250,000 tons of iron products and revenues estimated at $ 220 million for the year 2022.”
The spokesman stressed that the Ghar Jbeilat mine is reliable as a huge project for the development of the iron and steel industry and one of the largest mines in the world, with estimated reserves of more than 3 billion tons.
He urged the Minister of Industry to proceed with the formation of professional and integrated blocs of astrologers, technologists and mining professionals to unify energies for an Algerian product of high quality and competitiveness that meets the needs of the national industry, which are numerous and increasing.
