The Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Tayeb Zitouni, announced today, Tuesday in Algiers, the organization of an evaluation meeting for the trade sector, which includes all the central and local executives of the sector, allowing to stand on what has been achieved and the measures to be taken to bridge the shortcomings recorded in the field.
Zitouni said, on the sidelines of his meeting with the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Jacob Mudenda, that this meeting, which will be held soon, will be a “real and objective evaluation meeting.”
In this regard, the minister affirmed that “steps have been made in internal and external trade, as well as in supplying the market,” and therefore, the meeting will allow “many facts to be shown to value the positive things and avoid the negative ones.”
Referring to the last month of Ramadan, Zitouni affirmed that “a qualitative leap and a positive step was recorded in the abundance of a lot of materials that were the subject of speculation and bidding before Ramadan, as well as some fluctuation at times,” appreciating the decisions of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, which were “ strict” in order to prepare well for the month of Ramadan, especially the abundance of widely consumed materials.
During the evaluation meeting, the source of the fluctuation recorded in some items, such as fortified milk, will also be considered, says Mr. Zeitouni, noting that the “deterrence” approach solved many problems, but, “it is not the only approach.”
Accordingly, the minister says, a new approach will be considered that allows for better monitoring of the market, noting that the monitoring services at the ministry level recorded about 200,000 interventions, which resulted in about 40,000 referral decisions to the judiciary due to commercial violations and abuses.
The evaluation meeting will also deal with the good preparation of the maintenance program by merchants during the upcoming Eid al-Adha, especially after extending the Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha holidays to three paid days instead of two days, as well as other issues such as measures to avoid poisoning during the summer period, the next school entry and the provision of basic materials for it.
