A roadmap to direct investment in nuclear technologies and applications for medical use

The Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, accompanied by the Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, chaired today, Monday, at the level of the Atomic Energy Governorate, a working and follow-up meeting regarding the development of a road map to direct investment in nuclear technologies and applications for medical use, which was assigned to the joint working group between the energy and mine sectors, Health, higher education and scientific research, industry and pharmaceutical production, and the Atomic Energy Governorate.

Where this meeting took place in the presence of representatives of the Minister of Health and the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in addition to members of the work team, representatives of the concerned sectors, energy and mines, health, higher education and scientific research, industry and pharmaceutical production, and the Atomic Energy Governorate.

It should be noted that, on April 16, 2023, the Minister of Energy and Mines supervised the installation of the intersectoral working group, with the aim of preparing a road map to direct investment in nuclear technologies and applications with medical use, which among its tasks is to inventory current use cases in Algeria for sciences, technologies and applications. nuclear medicine in the field of cancer control, with identifying the immediate and medium-term needs within the framework of the national program for cancer control, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, medical imaging and radiopharmaceuticals, in addition to several other tasks such as defining and organizing the infrastructure within the framework of the scientific research program in this field, as well as identifying technologies Irradiation, especially with regard to sterilization of medical equipment, as well as defining training and rehabilitation programs in these areas, while strengthening national expertise and capabilities and international and regional cooperation relations to support the cancer control program in Algeria.

On this occasion, a presentation was made on the initial report and action plan prepared by the intersectoral working group, which included many aspects, the most important of which are related to prevention, diagnosis, treatment, equipment maintenance, training, training, scientific research and technological development.

After praising the work team’s efforts in preparing and completing the road map and action plan, the ministers unanimously agreed on the need to set a timetable with clarification of the listed points, such as identifying priority nuclear medicine equipment and devices, with the aim of localizing its industry locally and in order to benefit from expertise and technological transfer in this field. .
