President Tebboune: Doubling gas production destined exclusively for export

The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, confirmed today, Tuesday, in Algiers, Algeria’s ambition to double gas production destined exclusively for export.

President Tebboune said, while standing at the petroleum industries pavilion of the “Sonatrach” complex, at the Algerian Production Exhibition, which he oversaw its opening, saying: “We are currently producing about 102 billion cubic meters of gas, half of which we consume locally. I hope that we will reach, during 2023, The production of 100 billion cubic meters of gas is directed only for export.

On this occasion, the President of the Republic affirmed, once again, that Algeria is a “very reliable” energy partner for Europe, noting, in particular, the partnership between Algeria and Italy.

In this regard, the CEO of Sonatrach, Toufik Hakkar, revealed that Algerian gas exports to Italy reached a record level.

And he said: “During this month, we achieved a record in our exports (of gas) to Italy, a number that we have not recorded since 2011. Our exports approached 97 million cubic meters / day to Italy,” adding that Algeria currently exports nearly 27 billion cubic meters. cubic meters of gas per year for this country.

President Tebboune commented by saying that Algeria does not see any objection to seeing Italy become a pivotal center for the distribution of (Algerian) gas to other countries, including Germany.

And the President of the Republic took advantage of the opportunity of his presence in the petroleum industries pavilion to renew his greetings to all the workers of the “Sonatrach”, “Naftal” and “Sonalgas” complexes for their efforts to contribute to national development.

While standing at the stand of the Phosphate Industries Complex, President Tebboune stressed the importance of these industries, which provide inputs for the agricultural sector, recalling that it is strictly forbidden to export mining raw materials.

In the pavilion dedicated to the “Sidal” complex, President Tebboune stressed “the need to rehabilitate this complex in order for it to play its real role in the field of the pharmaceutical industry in Algeria.”
